The Department of Energy, through its Office of Indian Energy Policy and Programs, issued a Notice of Intent to release a funding opportunity later this year entitled “Energy Infrastructure Development on Indian Lands - 2020”
Here’s what you need to know
What is the opportunity? DOE will be making a formal Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) later this year titled “Energy Infrastructure Development on Indian Lands - 2020”. The funding opportunity will provide grant funding to support the deployment of Tribal energy projects such as energy efficiency measures, energy generation, energy storage, and microgrids.
Who can apply? The DOE plans to solicit applications from Indian Tribes, which include Alaska Native Regional Corporations and Village Corporations, Intertribal Organizations, and Tribal Energy Development Organizations.
When are grant applications due? Not known yet. The deadline for the grant applications will be outlined in the FOA.
When will the Funding Opportunity Announcement be made? DOE plans to issue the FOA on or about March or April 2020.
What types of Tribal energy infrastructure projects can receive funding? There are four topic areas that the funding opportunity focuses on:
Energy generating system(s) or energy efficiency measure(s) for tribal building(s)
Community-scale energy generating system(s) or energy storage
Integrated energy system(s) for autonomous operation
Energy infrastructure or integrated energy system(s) to electrify Tribal buildings
What are examples of past Tribal energy projects that have been awarded DOE funding? Check out this post: Past DOE Tribal Energy Projects. Also, check out the video below that highlights past DOE-funded solar projects installed by Tonto Apache Tribe and San Carlos Apache Tribe:
